Benjamin Marauder Woods Walker Review

I received the Benjamin Marauder Woods Walker .22 Pistol in the mail, and it came in probably the best packaging I have ever seen for an air gun. It came in not one, not two, but three boxes. The packaging was fantastic, it was well done to preserve the pistol and the ammo sent by Airgundepot.com. The ammo was wrapped in between two pieces of foam and cardboard keeping the tins from being damaged during shipping. After getting through the first two boxes I finally got to the both the pistol was in, and once I opened it I was caught off guard by how much was in it. Dead center in the box there was the pistol and it was safely secured by foam that kept it from being directly off the cardboard mitigating any damage that could be received from shipping. I pulled the pistol out and noted everything else in the box, there was the stock, the red and green dot sight, paperwork and bag with eight round magazine and its paperwork.

Once the pistol was out I started looking it over. The first thing I noticed was the camouflage coloring, it is a really good coating, the furniture is plastic but it is strong plastic and it is light. Next, I noticed the air tank, the air tank is the main body of the air gun and cannot be removed. That makes it nice because it can produce a consistent PSI until it starts getting too low, as there are no visible O-rings that can be removed or damaged from constant removal, this is a benefit to the air gun, I  shot Olympic standard air rifle in high school and my air gun was constantly going through O-rings due to the constant removal and tank fills that needed to be done each week.

Inside the box were a few accessories that were key to the pistol, there was the stock as mentioned but a small white box and a separate plastic bag. I first took out the red dot and put the battery in, it is a decent red dot with both the green and red reticles, multiple reticles and five levels of brightness for both the red and green. I prefer green dots as they show up a little clearer with my preferred shooting glasses. Next was the stock, after messing with the pistol as a traditional pistol, I decided that using the stock was much better for my style of shooting. I put the stock on, this was a very simple process remove one screw on each side and remove the pistol scales and then slide the stock on over the grip and secure it with the screws. The final accessory was the eight-round magazine, it is a simple rotary magazine where you load it up, slide it into place in the action and you can get eight shots off relatively quickly.

Finally came range day, I pulled the pistol out of the carrier and started prepping and realized I had forgotten the magazine at home, I had already done a minor test of rotary function and it worked well, but on the range, I had to put the pellets in the action by hand, but that was a non-issue. While shooting I found the pistol to really push the limits of what it was capable of, the pellets were still striking hard at the thirty-three-yard max that was recommended by the manufacturer. I did test it through a chronograph, it was pushing roughly six-hundred feet per second, which is just short of the seven hundred feet per second, but still an admirable FPS for an air gun. Once I zeroed the pistol my shots were dead on from five yards to about forty yards, this was due to the crisp release of the trigger, the pull weight is one and half pounds and can be adjusted. One thing I noticed that I felt could be corrected was the stock and how it is attached, the one screw system is fine for just the pistol scales but when the stock is attached the stock moves ever so slightly which if not known about before could throw off shots.

My final thoughts, the Benjamin Marauder Woods Walker is a great air pistol, it has an accurate red dot, the pistol scales are great and the air tank being an integral part of the air gun makes it better for long term longevity versus air guns that have a removable air tank. There are only two complaints I have. First is the stock but that could easily be fixed with another screw or a little bit of duct tape. Second comes down to the air tank itself. While there are a good number of shots, it is very limited when come to shooting after the air is expended. When I got this air gun I called every scuba shop in my area attempting to find someone to fill my air tank, none of the local shops would fill it, I had to use a fill station finder from crosman.com to figure out where to go. Unless you own your own scuba tank or the local scuba shops fill air guns, there is only one other option for this air gun and that is the hand or foot pump. The hand or foot pump will take a long time to fill, averaging one-hundred PSI every ten pumps, the recommended PSI for this air gun is 2,900; that would be 290 pumps. Because of the limited ability to fill the air tank and the tank being integral to the air gun, this air gun would be great for a one-day hunting trip, or use at the home, or a day at the range. For avid divers, air gun users or those with businesses who easily fill up air tanks, this air gun is great. It took me a long time and roughly two hours between driving and tank refill to get mine filled.

This is not just a range toy though, this is a serious varmint hunting air gun, I felt confident that this air gun could easily remove squirrels, rabbits, raccoons and any other small destructive rodents on a farm, on your property or even in a garden pending state, city and county laws regarding firearm discharges within city limits.
