Fast Acquisition VTAB Review

I am an odd shooter, I am a right handed, left eye dominate person. I shoot left handed on right handed rifles. I also have extremely high cheek bones, which always makes having a proper cheek weld to a buttstock difficult. My LuthAR MBA-3 makes this easier because it has an adjustable cheek rest making a consistent cheek weld not only easy but second nature. On my other two AR rifles, I have a Mission First Tactical Minimalist and a Magpul MOE, both are fantastic stocks, but leave a lot of personal adjustment for me to get a proper and consistent cheek weld.

Fast Acquisition from Loveland, Colorado has come in and said no more of that for anyone. To get the best sight picture possible one shouldn’t have to tilt their head, move the stock around on their shoulder or do anything but bring the rifle up to bear. Fast Acquisition has created a part called the VTAB, while it fits on a multitude of stocks from the Ruger Precision, to the LuthAR MBA series and Magpul PRS series of stocks, they also make it for the Magpul MOE. It is made from high strength Delrin and uses industrial screw and springs for the rest of it.

I received the VTAB from Fast Acquisition and looked it over. A simple design, press the tab on the left and move the backplate up and down. When adding it to the Magpul MOE you are required to unscrew the shoulder saver pad and take it off the stock. One the shoulder saver pad there are two plastic tabs that help with securing it to the stock, take a pair of wire cutters and cut those tabs off. This is required as the VTAB doesn’t need them. Line up the screw and use a hex wrench and screw the VTAB directly onto the stock. You will need to move the backplate up and down to gain access to both screws. Then use the screws that were taken from the stock and attach the shoulder saver to the VTAB. Once on you can adjust the VTAB as you see fit and due to the design, you can move it depending on your position with just the press of the tab.

I have mine set up for when I am shooting in the standing position, I had to take the stock off my 5.45 as it is still waiting on its optic to come in so I had to mismatch colors and put it onto my 5.56 build which has a Vortex Optics Sparc Gen 1. It is very low profile red dot, while required me to tilt my head to get a proper sight picture. I was ok with this until I got my VTAB. Now I can get my sight picture instantly without having to adjust myself. I worked flawlessly on the range and I was able to go from the low ready to engaging a target with ease, I did not test it in the prone because I don’t normally shoot prone with my 5.56 and each VTAB is cut to fit each sock differently so I was unable to attach it to my LuthAR MBA-3 stock and test it from the prone position.

My final thoughts, anyone who is interested in finding and using the VTAB especially if you are attempting to set yourself up for a fast more consistent cheek weld and by extension sight picture than you need to look up the VTAB. With a price of $69.99  it is a little price but well worth the cost of admission for a better sight picture.
