U.S.A.-(Libertyreport.co)-

Strum Ruger’s shareholders decided yesterday, Wednesday, May 10, 2018, to vote on moving forward with a report from the board of directors “on the company’s activities related to gun safety measures and the mitigation to harm associated with gun products.” This is according to the internal Strum Ruger Documents.

The board of directors must provide “evidence of monitoring of violent events” that are related to the sale of Strum Ruger’s firearms along with a way to produce a safer gun. The report must also address the company’s “Reputational and financial risks related to gun violence in the U.S.”

Colleen Scanlon, the Senior vice president and chief advocacy officer for Catholic Health Initiatives, pushed heavily for the study. Catholic Health Initiatives is a major shareholder in the American Outdoor Brands, which is the parent company of Strum Ruger.

“We as shareholders are saying that gun violence is significant enough that you, as a gun company, need to address what your responsibility to gun safety,” Scanlon told CNNMoney.

CHI along with 11 other religious organizations that own stock in Strum Ruger drafter the proposal. The CEO, Christopher Killoy and The board of directors are not happy about this proposal and are suggesting that they are not working in the best interest of the company, but that they will complete the request. “What the proposal does not and cannot do is to force us to change our business, which is lawful and constitutionally protected,” Killoy stated.

Scalon has stated she would like to see Strum Ruger move into and start working on Smart gun technology. She talked about the gunshot wounds that are treated in the Catholic Health Initiatives network. She holds the belief that smart gun technology could cut down on criminals getting guns.  She did not address how this technology could stop criminals from stealing and getting guns.

Current smart guns like Armatix iP1 have already been proven to be easily hacked or broken into. Simple magnets can bypass the existing systems. By using rare earth magnets, a hacker was able to avoid the safety features and fire the gun. He was also able to narrow down the radio transmission to the specific radio transmission that worked with the smartwatch. The current smart gun technology can be easily manipulated, as with all technology it can be bypassed.  (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANllOmgJH9Y)

There are many issues regarding safe gun technology, many opponents of safe gun technology state there are many reasons for this technology to fail. It can be unreliable, easily bypassed; batteries fail, failure to grab critical components such as watches and even failure of technology such as unreliable fingerprint scanners. The fact that the shareholders of Strum Ruger want to focus on this technology shows that their shareholders are starting to fold to the far left.

The shareholders also are ill-informed on the actual statistics of gun violence in the US. Without going over the known falsities in the homicide statistic, the violent crime rate involving nonfatal victims has dropped dramatically. In 1993 7.9 million people were subject to a violent crime committed by a stranger. In 2010 that number fell 77% to 1.8 million victimized by a stranger. Only 10% of these interactions were committed with firearms. That means that 180,000 people who were involved in a nonfatal victim crime That is 1.8 out of 100,000 people that were a victim of a crime committed by a stranger with a firearm. With known assailants only coming in at 5% of nonfatal victimizations. 90,000 people were victims of a violent nonfatal crime with a gun, that is .9 out of 100,000.  The Strum Ruger shareholders are misguided and are folding to the left all to appease the people that do not purchase their firearms.

  1. Very dissappointing to hear. They should know, appeasing the left is a losing battle. They have said outright “if they could, they would take em all.” If your not ready to address the true problems that cause violence, and continue to ignore the violence numbers dropping as gun ownership rises, how can you expect to make any progress.
