Getting a (Lok) Grip on Things

Recently I had the opportunity to be able to review a company known as Lok Grips. Lok Grips if you haven’t heard of them before, is a grip company that specializes in producing different style grips, available in 9 different platforms. After finding this out about the company, I figured that maybe it was time to upgrade my Sig Sauer 1911.

A little bit about the company before I dive into the review. Lok was started by Jay Dekmar, who has an outstanding background when it comes to engineering and machining. The company was started back in March of 2014 making 1911 grips. They have gained a large amount of social media following, and everyone that does follow them always shows their interest when it comes to the work that is produced by the company.

Now that a little background was given about the company here is my review of the grips. There are a few different things that I would like to touch on with the given grips. There are many different styles of grips that are made available for the 1911, and the ones that I have been given to review are ones from their “Bogies” line. When it comes to the installation of the grips, everything was pretty much cut and dry. All I had to do was unscrew the stock grips off the 1911, and put the new ones on. With the attention to detail on the specifications that I had given, everything had fit securely.

After attaching the grips to my 1911, I took the liberty to hold the pistol in my hand for a good amount of time. I did a lot of drills drawing the gun, holding it in my hand making sure I was able to obtain better control over the pistol. I did thing a few times over, switching the grips back to the factory set comparing them to one another. I did this a few times over just to make sure that the difference between the two was noticeable. After testing them, I would have to say that the handling of the Lok grips was far superior.

Something else that will catch the attention of anyone searching the website of Lok Grips is that you are given the option for a thumb cut out that allows your thumb to be parallel to the magazine release. I have paid a lot of attention to the thumb cut out looking over everything there was to it. It had made it more convenient to press the magazine release. Not having to worry about reaching over the magazine if you have small hands. With the cut out an individual is easily able to just press in, making it more convenient to utilize the magazine release. There is one that thing I need to talk about when it comes to the thumb cut out that I needed to adjust was a bit of an overlay around the edges of the thumb cut out. When gripping the pistol it would begin to rub into the hand making it uncomfortable when shooting or holding to do dry fire drills. This was a small annoyance that I was able to easily fix, by just running some sandpaper over to smooth out.

After everything was said and done when it comes to reviewing these grips, I was swayed into changing my grips after being a fan of stock grips. I never was much into upgrading my pistols, cause it was just the way I was. Functionality had improved greatly over the use of the 1911. Overall I would recommend the grips to anyone who is looking to upgrade but also will advise you to make any improvements to the thumb cut out if you find yourself in the same predicament I was in when the edges were rough.
