Benjamin Trail Air Rifle

This I must say has been one of the most awesome reviews I have had in a good while the simply because it was one I could get the whole family in on. I have not touched a pellet gun in roughly 15 years or so I think the last one I has was a daisy .177 cal just a plain $20-25 cheap-o one from Walmart. The advancements that have been made with these newer ones are absolutely astonishing the performance of this Benjamin Trail NP2 Stealth is devastating to say the least. Now, I will get into the box opening and the factory specs followed up by the performance as well as the comparison from my last experience. This pellet gun in particular came from www.airgundepot.com which was amazing they got shipped out the very same day and was at my front door a very short 4 days later I don’t think anyone could argue with speeds like that! I was very appreciative of the discreet packaging as I hate to point fingers at anyone sometimes some of my stuff magically “falls” off the face of the earth unless its packaged in a plain cardboard box.

To the fun part, after receiving the shipping notification I drove up to my nearest Walmart to get a few of each of the off the shelf readily accessible .22 Caliber pellets. They had a pretty solid selection of some of the big name brand pellets. Prices and amounts varied of course but no package was over about $8 which were the GAMO ballistic tipped pellets yes you read that correctly they make ballistic tipped pellets! I also picked up some Ruger precision pellets which were about $6 a tin for 200 as well as the Crossman Premier 500 count hollow points for $5 a tin and also to my surprise they included 2 tins of JSB Match Diablo pellets so I was extra stoked to shoot them all up. Now having never had the opportunity to shoot a break action before I was expecting the action itself to be relatively hard to break down but it definitely was not it was so easy I went through about 400 pellets just the first day. I made sure to rotate about a dozen rounds of each ammo type through my chronograph and the Benjamin Trail NP2 Stealth was putting down some very SERIOUS numbers I averaged about 850-1020 FPS. The higher the FPS obviously was the lighter pellets I used mainly out of the GAMO ballistic tipped pellets but it was very consistent in the high 900’s to low 1000’s I was pretty stoked because that’s faster than some of the .22LR ammunition available. I could not get my hands on any alloy pellets locally though so I am not exactly sure if it will achieve the 1100 FPS claim but it was right close with the GAMO ballistic tipped pellets.
Now to the fun part, the overall performance and accuracy, I am pretty blown away by how accurate this rifle is my daughter and I started out at 25 yards popping soda cans with extreme ease. Then we backed up to the 50 yard line and had the same experience these new air rifles are amazing compared to what I had growing up seriously at 50 yards I was still unable to recover a pellet because it would blow right through a water bottle. I was not able to recover a good pellet until my daughter and I went back to 85 yards and used a gallon jug of water and the pellet did have a bit of deformation so although the manufacture recommends 60 yards max for a squirrel I would be confident taking one at 85 yards. The accuracy is amazing out of this Benjamin Trail NP2 Stealth I went back to 100 yards and used a stand squirrel silhouette pop-up target and a gopher pop-up target and absolutely nailed them every single time. The accuracy and penetration is absolutely top notch I have a feeling if I was to get a tighter grouping I would have to spend 4-5 times what this pellet rifle costs. Also, the patent pending SBD or “Silencing Barrel Device” is great there is no hearing protection required at all it is rather equivalent to an actual suppressed .22 LR rifle so you are almost saving yourself a tax stamp and getting the same benefits.
Overall, I have to say I am pretty impressed with the Benjamin Trail NP2 Stealth it is a very powerful and accurate break action rifle. I cannot personally see anyone not being satisfied with this purchase quite literally the only bad thing that I have to say about it is that I wished it included the rear iron sight because the front sight does come with it but not the rear and I am a huge open sights fan. However, it does come with a rather adequate center point 3-9 x 32mm scope which works just fine for the application. So, if you are in the market I have to say this is a very solid and affordable entry level pellet gun that you can put to work immediately and be very happy with. I am about 1600 pellets into this air rifle and I have been keeping an eye on the chronograph periodically so you don’t need to worry about the Nitro Piston 2 wearing down! It has been very consistent with the pellets I have used. If you happen to be like me and have not touched one in over a decade I recommend you get one and try it out I am positive you will be as shocked as I was with the performance.
