Mossberg released an official press release hours ago just today (09MAY2018) that stated that
they would no longer sell any of their products to Dick’s sporting goods or their other store Field and
Stream. This stemming from the announcement Dick’s made to not sell any firearm or ammunition to
anyone under the age of 21 regardless of if they’re legally allowed to or not as well as their decision to
not carry any “assault-style” firearms. Dick’s has been slowly spiraling down the drain to the second
amendment community after hiring pro-gun lobbyists to go after stricter gun control, which completely
boggles everyone’s mind considering the second amendment community has been keeping the lights on
at Dick’s for a long time. It does not take a genius to see that the flaws in this new business route they
are taking only leads to even more store closings and possibly closing its doors forever.

I personally remember sitting in business management class and one of the first two sentences
out of the professor’s mouth was “you are in business to make money, not to have a political opinion”.
He then droned on for about 45 minutes about how he had seen great companies that hired subpar
leadership and had been run into the ground shortly afterward. You have to be wondering what their
end game is considering the number of stores that are closing from lack of support to include my local
one. Is the market for overpriced flip-flops and super expensive soccer balls enough to sustain any
hopes of a profit for them? Or will they find a new niche and invest heavily into and gamble on a hopeful
way to recoup the billions a year in sales they are projected to lose?

I think it’s going to be rather hard for Dick’s to bounce back considering the overwhelming
dedication people have to boycott them and companies cutting ties with them left and right. I would
highly recommend other companies take a good hard look at what NOT to do with theirs if they want to
be successful. It’s just a waiting game from here on out to see what absurdly stupid decision they come
out with next or what new company takes advantage of the publicity to discontinue any business
dealings with them. Either way, I am sure it will be covered here so stay tuned and thank you for reading.
