Let’s be realistic for a moment when it comes to an intruder coming into your home in the middle of the night, they aren’t there to ask you for a cup of sugar. They are there to either do harm to you and your family, rob you or sometimes both. There is no way around it especially in this day in age. I know many individuals like myself want to have a firearm within reach in case of an emergency arising. Sometimes though you may not be able to do such a thing, you can have people over for a party, family staying at your house, safe being too heavy to bring up the stairs and most importantly children in the house.

With these factors in mind, I was on the hunt for something that would be able to lock away a pistol, yet still, allow me to be able to reach it within a quick response time. After searching the Internet and Social Media, I finally found something that may take the prize as a storage device to keep a pistol locked away in my room, in case they need to use it ever arises. The company that I have found that could cater to this need for me to keep a firearm on hand in my room is StopBox USA.

What I was expecting and how fast does it open?

StopBox defines its product as a “Quick-Access Handgun Retention Device.” I think this is something that the company emphasized on pretty well when it came to the product description. The main thing that you need to worry about when it comes to a home intruder is time. Time is everything in a dire situation, this is not an unknown fact. So when the storage device came in, the first thing that I wanted to do was test out how fast thing could open. After getting the hang of opening it, it took no more than a few seconds to open the device and retrieve my pistol in it.

No Batteries? No Problem

What I like about this device from StopBox USA is the fact that it is completely analog. There is absolutely no wiring, no batteries, nothing. I find that it not being having to run on electricity at all is extremely beneficial to the user. Let’s face it, people, batteries die, wires come loose there are plenty of things that can go wrong when you have to rely on electrical/battery-operated items sometimes. With the push of three buttons that you can change the combination to can give you peace of mind when you lay your head down at night, not having to worry about if you changed the batteries out or anything along those lines.

• When it comes to the locking system you are able to unscrew it from the inside of the device. Directions are given in order to change the combination to anything that will work for you.
• The combination is done by pushing specific fingers on the button on the outside of the device.

Size Matters, right?

When it comes to this retention device, I would have to say that the size of the product works well for what it is used for. The amount of room that some devices take up is crazy. They can be extremely large and in the way for what? To hold a single firearm? If I am going to store one firearm, I want to make sure that I can put the product somewhere that is out of the way and not take up much space. I have looked when I received the StopBox and I have found that I can put it on a nightstand, in a drawer and even on a bookshelf. The amount of different places that I can put the StopBox is great because I can be within the vicinity of the pistol without having a bulky storage device in my way taking up space.

What it can hold?

As I said in the previous paragraph, the StopBox is small. Therefore you’re not going to be able to lug around a huge .44 Magnum with an extended barrel. It’s just not going to happen. With a full-size frame, the one pistol that I have available to me is the Glock 19x. When it comes to fitting the 19X in this, I had to make sure that it sat fully and securely on the foam inserts of the device. By putting the pistol just right in the case I was able to put that and an extra magazine in the device and securely lock the device up without any worries.

Final Thoughts

Keeping a firearm on hand in the middle of the night to deter possible threats that may enter your home is definitely something that I always do. Having this case in my hands made things a lot easier when it came to protecting my firearm from anyone that may be visiting the house. My firearms are always out of the reach of children, but to have this as a way to keep my pistol out of the reach of children made things more convenient for myself. I would have to say with the amount of space that it takes up, and the convenience and additional safety added from the device, I am able to sleep more soundly knowing that my pistol is within easier reach during the night without sacrificing any time or safety.
