Condition 1 Model 253 Case Review

Around Christmas time I received a solid size box from Condition 1 Cases. In the box, there was a Model 253 case. Included were a set of TSA approved locks. Now Condition 1 cases are known for firearm security. As a contributor to the Liberty Report, I have a few articles on firearms but a second passion that fit this bill very well. This case will be assessed using radio controlled vehicles and accessories.

The first assessment I did was filling up my wash basin with luke warm water. Placed in the case was a higher end RC vehicle. As a precaution a waterproofed vehicle was chosen. The test was over the course of about 24 hours. An extra RC was used as weight to keep the seal underwater. The goal was to see whether or not this case kept the truck dry.

The second test focused on the foam. A spare transmitter fitted the foam in the foam. The assessment focused on the case’s protection. So how was this assessed? With the transmitter in the case, it was thrown off a 1 story deck.

Finally the Condition 1 Case #253 was assessed for durability. This included throwing it off the deck 7 more times. The case was left not tied down in the back of a truck for 500 miles through Washington DC region. There were about 20 lbs of materials in the case and it was 30 outside. So, how did it do?

In the water task, the case held up well. There was no water in the case after 24 hours of the seals and handle submerged. The foam test went well. It barely moved and that was because of extra foam that was removed. I was very impressed. The durability test only saw the right latch come on done once on the 6th fall. Finally, the case held up well while driving. I could hear it banging around, but the case never failed.

I highly recommend Condition 1 products based on the assessment I gave it. The case protected the gear, and did so while still looking good. Cases from a discount retailer have failed the durability test. The Condition 1 #253 … aced it. I plan to leave it outside and follow up with a long-term weather assessment.
