Wait For Those Holiday Sales To Build Your Rifles!

An AR-10 is not as common as you think so catching a few sales will certainly help you to keep the cost down on a good one instead of a less quality one. Holiday sales are very crucial for money saving and coming in under budget and putting money where you should. I built this this AR-10 over the time span of father’s day and the July 4th sales which were 20-30% off. It is extremely possible to build the AR-10 of your dreams for much less then you would suspect it would cost. A little patience may land you a very solid and respectable rifle.

The way I done this was to write down an entire build list of products I wanted and then an alternative in case that specific one was not on the sales. Admittingly, not everything went on sale between the two holidays so I had to adjust and see what was on sale. My goal was to save $400 on the overall build without sacrificing ANY quality I wanted all brand name parts for this build. My complete budget was $2,000 I said to myself not a penny more until it was optics times so from the stripped upper and lower to functioning rifle $2,000 was my total budget.

It all started with a matching billet upper and lower set that I got from Man O’ War Precision Arms the owners are friends of mine and gave me a hook up on both shipped for $170. That got the ball rolling for me I picked up a CMMG lower parts kit from CMMG for 20% off from the Independence Day sale they ran so it was about $55 as well. Then I hit my local shops and seen while at High velocity that he had Aero 15” AR-10 rails on sale so I picked that up for about $150. As you can see I was getting excited now because I was a good percentage done already. Then the mother of all sales came down through either Faxon or a dealer for Faxon, a 24” nitride heavy fluted barrel and faceted nitride BCG for $540 needless to say I stuttered getting my debit card out and immediately purchased them.

Now I am getting really excited and my rifle is right close to completion! So, while scrolling on Instagram I came across a company called Pure-Precision and I liked a bunch of their posts because he did good work. Bam the owner is in my DM he sent a message and said since I liked so many he is giving me a 50% off muzzlebrake so I picked a nice one that was $90 and only paid $45. I am positive by now I have your wheels spinning on how to build this rifle it is easy just have a bit of patience. Only 3 things remain now are the trigger and charging handle and the buffer tube and stock.

So, I stopped by another local gun store Big Dogs in King George and I was chatting with one of the employees telling him what I am building. He then snapped his finger and says he has a CMMG buffer tube set($45) that they have had a while and he would give me a rifle buffer and $10 off the tube if I bought it that day. Then, I noticed they had Magpul stocks on sale for 20% off (was$85) so it made my build list so close to being done. Later that night I used all of my eBay dollars to pick up an Aero charging handle and gas block and gas tube on Independence Day sale($0). The trigger I later seen on sale through Timney is the Calvin Elite 520-CEA for $260.

Despite the trigger I absolutely had to have I am at $1990 and ready to shoot minus optics. That is roughly $10 under my original budget (barely made it phew) and with about $430 in savings yes you read that right it is possible to hit realistic goals. The rifle looks great as you see in the pictures and has all good quality parts the only lifehack I had used was patience and saved bigtime on a great long range 6.5 Creedmoor. The reason I only go with Timney Calvin Elites is because they are my go to trigger for anything long range I seriously can not praise them enough seriously in my opinion you will not find a better trigger. So, WAIT for those holiday sales and save some serious coin!! You can always re-invest those savings into ammo and optics.
