Visionary Machine and Design Slide Cut review

In early December I decided to sell an old firearm and pick up a new Glock, I wanted a 9mm but I did not want a Glock 19 or Glock 17. I decided to hunt down a Glock 34 or 17L. While at my local gun show I stumbled upon a Glock 34 Gen 4. I put my money down, did my state and federal background check, and went home with my new Glock. I spent time working with it, dry firing, and even hitting an indoor range. My first time with the Glock 34 was not my best but I was coming back from using a .40 caliber Glock 22 and before that a Taurus Judge. Getting around the learning curve wasn’t hard, but after my first time, I was in love with my new Glock.

But as many fans of Glock eventually realize there is one glaring flaw in the Glock design. There is a lack of slide serrations at the front of the slide, and there are the stock serrations at the rear of the slide. Depending on your preferred shooting style serrations at the front are a necessity. I switch between grabbing the rear of the slide and the front of the slide. After spending a few hours on the range, after a rather warm December day, I found that gripping the front of my slide with my sweaty hand was difficult and I resorted back to grabbing the serrations at the back of my slide. I decided that day to get a slide cut and Cerakote. I went through the task of finding a company to do the slide cut for me. I wanted a company to have their own design and not be the usual cookie cutter slides. I wanted something unique to me.

I spent a few weeks looking up companies, from big to small and I finally settled on Visionary Machine and Design. They are a small veteran owned business and we got to talking about what I wanted and needed for my Glock 34 to make it unique and functional. Once the Christmas season passed and all my bills were paid I sent my slide off to be done. With a two to three-week lead time I was stuck in that dreaded waiting period for what my slide would look like and how functional it would be. I was sent an updated photo from the owner and it looked good, but that was before the Cerakote. Visionary Machine and Design works did the machining and Dawn Of Defense did the Cerakote work.

I knew I needed a Star Wars themed handgun. I decided on a distressed white and the Jedi symbol on my slide in blue. When I first saw the photos I was speechless. I had to ask if they engraved the symbol but they didn’t. The cerakoting was done so well it looks like it was engraved. I had sent my Ameriglo suppressor height sights with my slide and they properly fit them and set them up on my slide after the cerakoting was done.

Next was shipping, and as soon as it was shipped, I received the shipping notification and tracked it all the way home. I was there to receive it and I was as excited as five-year-old with a piece of chocolate. I ran into my house and ripped open the box and unpackaged my slide. I looked down to the slide and it was even better in person. I stood over it and put my handgun back together in nearly a month. The cuts were very noticeable. The heavy serrations added to the front of the slide, with the two small windows put on the front, added to the look I needed for my 34. I put on my Vortex Vyper red dot and started doing dry fire practice, using both the stock and newly introduced serrations.

A few weeks later I went to my buddy’s range and started really getting to work on my slide. I spent my time running the slide and regaining the feel with it. I did some different mag changes and decided that depending on the situation I would use both the standard serrations and my new serrations.

In conclusion, I needed something unique and to me only, Visionary machine and design and Dawn Of Defense did a fantastic job at creating functional art. I have decided that from this point forward, any Glock I get will have a slide cut done, even if it is simple serrations. My Glock 34 has set a bar for me and for my future for my firearms. The cost of my slide cut and one coat of Cerakote was $325. In my opinion it is a fantastic price.
