VCC Statement: Loudoun County Virginia Shooting Ban Update!

By: Virginia Constitutional Conservatives

***LOUDOUN COUNTY SHOOTING BAN UPDATE****

Meetings like last night truly make my head hurt.

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, several “conservative” County Supervisors gave cover to the anti-gunners on the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors and moved to crack open the County Code to further firearms regulations in Loudoun County.

First the good news… It was truly wonderful see to so many County residents show up and support individual liberty, the 2nd Amendment and private property rights.

The entire meeting room was packed, it was truly standing room only.

State Senator Dick Black and State Delegate Dave LaRock stood with us to defeat County Supervisor Kristen Umstattd’s tyrannical and ludicrous de facto ban on all shooting and hunting in Loudoun County.

Grassroots activists and residents of our County spoke at length opposing this ban, and the Board also spoke to the hundreds of emails they received opposing it.

And it was clear that only your calls, emails and attendance at this meeting prevented a possible adoption of Umstattd’s Shooting Ban.

For several “Republicans” on the County Board of Supervisors were all too willing to compromise away yet more of your God given rights, as shown by their later actions.

Led by Supervisors Tony Buffington, Ron Meyer and Matthew Letourneau, the County is still working to amend the Codified Ordinances of Loudoun County: Chapter 684.03(3)(d)-Weapons and Explosives, some, like Supervisor Meyer, even suggesting amending the Ordinance in violation of State Law!

These three Supervisors, along with Democrats Umstattd, Saines and Randall, are now using taxpayer money to ‘study’ how to infringe upon yet more law abiding residents’ God given rights. The results of this study will be up for a vote on December 4, 2018.

Using your money to create a ‘study’ to see what further portions of Loudoun County need to shoved into the ‘Shooting Ban’ that already exists in the eastern part of the County.

But, as was seen last night, you can stop them.

Ignoring the testimony of the Commonwealth Attorney and the County Sheriff’s Department, Supervisor Meyer even suggested civil penalties for land owners, who may not even be present at the time a firearm is discharged, for ricocheting bullets that accidentally cross a public road or another’s property, even with no criminal action or intent.

This would essentially end all land owner permission for hunting or shooting on their land.

Thankfully the County Attorney pointed out this ridiculous measure is against State Law.

However, Buffington’s amendment or any amendments that come from it, to get government to do something, must be opposed at the December 4th County Board Meeting.

For the past 100 years, we have watched compromising politicians slowly whittle away our Constitutional and private property rights.

And in delaying the action until December, it gives the anti-gun crowd time to rally try to force through additional shooting bans.

We must not compromise. I and many others spoke before the Board of Supervisors last night and told them we will never bow before the radical anti-gunners and allow them to ban any law abiding citizen’s ability to shoot and hunt on their private property.

But we will need your help again.

The actions of Supervisors Buffington, Meyer and Letourneau clearly show they are more than willing to surrender to the far left radicals if you let them.

In an effort to appease the Democrats and punish the law abiding citizens of our County, these Supervisors want to punish the innocent for the actions of two accidents over the past 15 years!

In my public remarks, I pointed out the statistical fact that by getting in their cars and driving home, the members of the County Board of Supervisors pose a far greater danger to the lives of the citizens of Loudoun County, than all the hunting and shooting in our County over the past 15 years.

But sadly, to the three Republican sellouts on the Board, facts apparently do not matter.

Showing the insanity of ‘being just one more law away from Utopia’, Buffington, Meyer and Letourneau ignored testimony, time and again, that there are already enough state and county laws on the books, specifically to prevent the reckless discharge of a firearm.

They further ignored the fact the current code preventing shooting within 100 yards of an occupied building and within 50 yards of a public road, does, in the opinion of many law enforcement, state elected officials and citizens, prevent injury to another, as it has done for decades.

In my opinion, based upon years of experience, this just shows Buffington, Meyer and Letourneau are preparing to run left in their bids to hold their elected crowns come 2019.

So in the end, the fight continues. The anti- gun crowd is sure to mobilize and certain ‘back-bone impared’ politicians will try to compromise, but, as shown last night, a free and engaged citizenry can and will stop them.

Can I count on you to stand with us?
