Recently, I have started something new when it comes to writing about the firearms community. I have been on the hunt for some of the most outstanding companies that have caught the interest of myself that are located around the country. These companies may be some that we have all heard of before, and some may be that haven’t been able to make that name for themselves. This new piece I will be doing will be covering everything that is to know about companies, and what they bring to the table for this industry.
Ushering in the maiden voyage of this series is a company based out of the State of New Jersey, called Modern Materiel. Up until recently, the most I knew about this company was when I had noticed some of their rifles in local shops and seeing them on social media advertising their brand. After being able to communicate with one of the owners of the company, I was finally able to schedule time with them to be able to get some more information on the company.
When I was at their headquarters in Keyport, NJ I was given a full tour of everything that this company had to offer at their location. Going over a few different rifles that they had to offer when it comes to purchasing for the civilian market, I had seen that they do make everything compliant to the state that you live in. This means New Jersey compliant rifles from a New Jersey company for New Jersey residents. There is nothing that needs to be done on your part, taking the hassle out of doing all the extra work to ensure that whatever rifle you own from them in order to abide by your state laws.
Getting a more in-depth look at the company itself, I was able to find that when it comes to their rifles, a good amount of local police departments actually carry their rifles for their duty weapons. I think this is something that is absolutely amazing when it comes to really give back to the people of the State. We all know that when it comes to New Jersey, firearm restrictions are strong. The State Government lets it be known that our 2nd Amendment rights, have no place in New Jersey society. When it comes to Modern Materiel, that doesn’t stop them. Rifles are produced from this company, made to exact standards that need to be met, and are sold. Laws are followed to the “T”, yet they continue to pump out rifles for many different organizations and people. Something that I would like to follow up on when it comes to the production of the rifles. Production of the rifles is done by only one individual and is inspected by a different person. This shows me that when it comes to quality there is cutting corners.
Continuing with my conversation with this company, I was able to find out that they are very meticulous when it comes to quality control for their rifles. The rifles are assembled and manufactured on site, and each rifle is in the hands of more than one individual on the assembly line to ensure that each rifle meets their strict standards before they are shipped. I found that this in my personal opinion is something that deserves praise. For larger companies especially, we see that there is mass production of different types of firearms, machines build firearms to exact specifications, put together, tested and onto the next. With these guys, it definitely is something different. Being able to stand in and watch how the process of testing rifles to their standards, and not shipping out unless they meet or exceed them shows me the dedication they put into their work. Especially when the company is as close-knit as theirs.
While on the subject of their rifles, I was able to get a feel for the rifles that they have offered for purchase aside for the general public. The rifles contain parts from respectable companies in the industry such as Strike Industries, along with Strike Industries. When looking at the website to see what the rifles they offer, a complete list of the parts that are used to make a rifle are featured in a detailed profile of the rifle.
Something that the guys from Modern Materiel had offered me was a chance to do a quality control test with them on a batch of rifles that were getting ready to be sent out, that was on the final stages. I was more than excited to jump at the chance to be able to take these bad boys for a spin being that this would be the first time to get to be able to shoot one. Not knowing anything about the performance of the rifles I was excited to see what the hype that was placed upon them was about. Once I was able to get the rifles in my hand I found that they were extremely comfortable. This is something that I always notice with whenever it comes to shooting any type of firearm. I noticed that the trigger pull on the rifle was very smooth as well. There were no malfunctions in any of the rifles that I had tested and cycled the rounds smoothly. This is a rifle that I would love to be able to get more range time in with, and fully make this stallion gallop.
When it comes to Modern Materiel there is a lot of fancy words and fluff that I can feed you about them. I can tell you that the company is this and the company is that, but in the end, you need to be able to get a Modern Materiel rifle in your hand to be able to fully understand the quality and care that is put behind the manufacturing process of each rifle that they sell. With everything that I have witnessed behind the scenes of the company, and the performance of more than one rifle I was able to shoot; I can say that without a doubt I can see Modern Materiel expanding throughout the country even more than ever in no time at all.
