G2 Research Telos 9mm Review

The Telos 9mm +P is a different form of frangible rounds. The round when entering a target will break apart into seven different parts, six petals and the base creating a small slug. For the test of this ammo, we had to get creative, we lined up six pumpkins around two, two-liter bottles so we had the highest chance of catching as many petals and slugs we could. This ammo performed really well, in one case the first pumpkin was devastated, the entry wound was not that large but the exit wound leading to the second pumpkin was massive, but the second pumpkin was penetrated by the base, but the petals stuck in to skin of the pumpkin, this ammo performed as promised it shot through the first target but over penetrating to the second target or third will not happen consistently.

For shooting wise it’s a good round and it must be noted that all of these rounds are +P. The rounds themselves came in at 92 grains, which for a frangible round is really good. These rounds were designed to enter a target an expand, break apart and slow down. Firing the ammo out of my CZ75B I had no issues with cycling. I even did a quick test with my AR9, I ran a few rounds of the 9mm Telos between two of my magazines. I was able to get two rounds to work flawlessly out of the Glock pattern ETS group magazines, but when I attempted to use them out of my SGM magazine, it ended up setting the bullet farther into the case or squibbing the round, after looking at the magazines we determined that the difference in magazine followers was the cause of the issue, further testing will be done. We decided to remove round from the case and take a good look at it, the round is much different the G2 Research’s RIP or Civic Duty rounds. They are perfectly rounded with the frangible cuts being on the inside of the hollow point.

We did a test with the last two shots out so we do not have a consistent number but we got these resorts:

1200 FPS – Glock 17

1226 – 7.5in AR9

My final thoughts, I feel like the Telos 9mm +P round is a viable defense round within 10 yards, it is not meant to take 50 or 60ft shots but designed to be fired at the average distance that defensive shootings happen which is about 7 yards or 21ft. With a decent price of $18 a box, this ammo will fit right in with anyone’s carry ammo as a viable option. The information on this ammo can be found here.
