DefendTek LR-1 Review

I had the pleasure of being able to test and review the DefendTek Rail Mounted LR-1 600 Lumen Rifle Light. Litterally impressed out of the box with the packaging and the way they presented the Light. Let’s face it who reads the instructions right? Diving right in the kit includes: Battery Charger, Pressure switch with the backplate, LR-1 Light with orginal backplate.

The light itself is well constructed. Very tight tollerances on the light and the one thing you will notice immediately is that the light is not detachable from the mount (this is good and bad in my opinion but, it is designed to mount on the rifle and leave it).

I personally like modularity but, this works for its purpose! The pressure switch system works extremely well. It mounts up easily and works well with the Picatinny Rail. The battery is a standard 2600mhr and easily replaceable with another rechargable battery or to get a backup.

Now let’s dig into the meat and potatoes shall we? This light is 600 lumens and it provides a decent amount of throw in a specific area (View picture on the right) for the money it is a decent entry level light. To give you a compairison the picture on the left is my Olight PL-2 Valkyrie (1200 lumens) now of course this is double the lumens what DefendTek LR-1 You can see a massive amount of Flood and Throw with a distinct hot spot in the middle. I am impressed with the Hotspot by the DefendTek.

In Conclusion, I think that this is a great entry level Rifle Light. I think that it is a great platform that DefendTek could grow off of. I would like to see them increase the Lumens which would give off more blinding light and it would give you more of an advantage with flood and throw. (Floor is wide area coverage while in short distance, Throw is the length from the light straight out)
